Guitar & Voice Prelude: El Shaddai

Michael Card / Thompson, John W. Thompson

El Shaddai, El Shaddai El Elyonna Adonai.
Age to age, You're still the same by the power of the Name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamkana Adonai.
We will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.

Through Your love and through the ram, You saved the Son of Abraham;
Through the power of Your hand, You turned the sea into dry land.
To the outcast on her knees, You were the God who really sees;
And by Your might, You set Your children free.

Through the years, You made it clear that the time of Christ was near;
Though the people couldn't see what Messiah ought to be.
Though Your Word contained the plan, they just could not understand
Your most awesome work was done through the frailty of Your Son.

The Call to Worship

Reading: 1 Corinthians 4:8-13 NRSV

8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Quite apart from us you have become kings! Indeed, I wish that you had become kings, so that we might be kings with you! 9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, as though sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to mortals. 10 We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. 11 To the present hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clothed and beaten and homeless, 12 and we grow weary from the work of our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; 13 when slandered, we speak kindly. We have become like the rubbish of the world, the dregs of all things, to this very day.

Here I Am, Lord

Daniel, L. Shutte

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in deepest sin My hand will save.
I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them? Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne My people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them. They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone; give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them. Whom shall I send?

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them. My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide, till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them. Whom shall I send?

The Word

Dramatized Reading

Mark 14:1-11 NLT

It was now two days before the Passover celebration and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and the teachers of religious law were still looking for an opportunity to capture Jesus secretly and put him to death. 2 “But not during the Passover,” they agreed, “or there will be a riot.”

  3 Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had leprosy. During supper, a woman came in with a beautiful jar of expensive perfume. She broke the seal and poured the perfume over his head. 4 Some of those at the table were indignant. “Why was this expensive perfume wasted?” they asked. 5 “She could have sold it for a small fortune and given the money to the poor!” And they scolded her harshly.

  6 But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why berate her for doing such a good thing to me? 7 You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But I will not be here with you much longer. 8 She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time. 9 I assure you, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be talked about in her memory.”

 10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests to arrange to betray Jesus to them. 11 The leading priests were delighted when they heard why he had come, and they promised him a reward. So he began looking for the right time and place to betray Jesus.

Reading: 2 Corinthians 2:14-17

14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him. 15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; 16 to the one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not peddlers of God’s word like so many; but in Christ we speak as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God and standing in his presence.

More Precious Than Silver

Lynn DeShazo

Lord, you are more precious than silver.
Lord, you are more costly than gold.
Lord, you are more beautiful than diamonds,
And nothing I desire compares with You.

And who can weigh the value of knowing You?
Who can judge the worth of who You are?
Lord, who can count the blessings of loving You?
Who can say just how great You are,
How great You are?

Unison Prayer

Merciful God, forgive us,

and in the freedom of your forgiveness,

may we climb to the threshold of our belief in you,

Response:  All I Once Held Dear

Graham Kendrick

All I once held dear, built my life upon,
All this world reveres, and wars to own,
All I once thought gain I have counted loss;
Spent and worthless now, compared to this.

Knowing you, Jesus, knowing You,
There is no greater thing.
You're my all, You're the best,
You're my joy, my righteousness,
And I love You, Lord. (Love You lord.)

Now my heart's desire is to know You more,
To be found in You, and known as Yours,
To possess by faith what I could not earn;
All surpassing gift of righteousness.

Oh to know the power of Your risen life,
And to know You in Your sufferings,
To become like you in your death, my Lord;
So with You to live, and never die.

The Benediction

Charge & Blessing

The Servant Song

Richard Gillard

Will you let me be your servant; let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I might have the grace to let you be my servant too.

We are pilgrims on a journey. We're together on this road.
We are here to help each other, walk the mile and bear the load.

I will hold the Christ-light for you, in the nighttime of your fear.
I will hold my hand out to you; speak the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping; when you laugh I'll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow till we've seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven, we shall find such harmony,
Born of all we've known together of Christ's love and agony.

Will you let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant too.

Guitar & Voice Postlude: Shout to the North

Martin Smith

Men of faith rise up and sing of the great and glorious King.
You are strong when you feel weak, in your brokenness complete.

Shout to the north and the south, sing to the east and the west:
Jesus is Savior to all, Lord of heaven and earth

Rise up women of the truth, stand and sing to broken hearts,
Who can know the healing pow'r of our awesome King of love.

We've been through fire; we've been through rain.
We've been refined by the pow'r of His name.
We've fallen deeper in love with You,
You've burned the truth on our lips.

Rise up church with broken wings; fill this place with songs again,
Of our God who reigns on high; by His grace again we'll fly.
