The
challenge of leading meaningful worship is as great as it ever has been!
Bewildered by change, we crave stability and connection to
the past—tradition.
Yet we fear stagnation and are
driven by the modern obsession to be 'cutting edge'. Is there a way to combine traditional and
contemporary, rational and emotional, planned and spontaneous? Certainly! These
pages are dedicated to promoting well planned yet vital, heartfelt yet intelligent
worship, drawing from tradition to express faith in fresh and contemporary
terms. Preaching,
teaching, music and
worship all play a part in getting the story of Jesus off the page and into
our lives. Planning and leading presentations and worship to engage the hearts and minds of a whole
congregation requires us to yield to one another—but
not in a mindless embrace of either "the way it's always been"
or "what's happening now!"
Rather,
we may draw from three millennia of tradition and
current culture to freshly articulate the
timeless faith of our mothers and fathers in One who is "the same yesterday, today and forever" (Heb
13:8). We sing a new song yet tell
the old old story.
